Fantasy Character Archetypes That Grow

I'm glad you're here.

Fantasy stories carry patterns. A wandering knight. A reluctant heir. A healer with a secret. These aren’t limitations. They’re invitations. Archetypes give characters a shape to begin from, not a box to stay in.

You can use an archetype as a starting point, then let it drift. A loyal bodyguard might question their loyalty after one quiet betrayal. A trickster might grow tired of always being the one with the joke. A chosen one might try to give the title to someone else. The possibilities live in how the character pushes against the shape they were handed.

Let archetypes create tension. When someone acts out of character, ask why. When they change, show how. It doesn’t need to be dramatic. It just needs to matter. That’s how characters grow.

You can build characters who feel like they belong to the world, starting here: lightspress.com/discover.

I hope you're doing well today,
Berin
