Why Release Timing Is Changing

At Lightspress, we try to make releases as smooth and consistent as possible. That’s included timing new titles on our site to go live alongside their counterparts on DriveThruRPG. Lately, that’s been harder to manage than we’d like.

DriveThruRPG uses a queue system for new releases. It works well for what they do, but it doesn’t let publishers set specific times. We can choose the release date, but not the moment it appears. It might go live just after ten in the morning Central Time, or it might take a few hours. Sometimes it’s not visible until later in the day or the next.

We’ve shared pre-release links here as a courtesy, since we know the URL ahead of time. When that link doesn’t work right away, we hear about it. Sometimes it’s a friendly joke. Other times it’s a sharp complaint. While we appreciate the interest, the inconsistency creates confusion we can’t control.

So here’s what’s changing.

From now on, Lightspress titles will go live on our site as soon as they’re ready. We won’t hold releases to match outside schedules. If you see something here and want it, it’s available. If you prefer to buy through DriveThruRPG, the release will show up there when it shows up. We’re not posting pre-release links anymore.

Just to be clear: messages asking when something will go live on DriveThruRPG will be deleted without being read or answered. We can’t track timing we don’t manage.

We’ll still share Amazon links when print editions become available. Those schedules are more predictable, and we’re happy to support readers who prefer print.

This change keeps the focus on the work itself. If you’re here, you’re already where Lightspress begins.
