Reflections on Creativity and Letting Go

The Manifesto 🌗 22 March 2025

The third quarter moon brings a quieter energy, its light waning as it guides us toward the close of this cycle. This is the phase of release, when we step back and let go of what isn’t serving the creative process, making room for clarity and refinement. It’s not about abandoning the work, it’s about trusting it enough to shed what weighs it down.

Creation often feels like building, adding piece by piece to bring an idea to life. But there’s another side to it, a necessary balance: the act of subtracting. Not every idea belongs, not every element fits. Sometimes, the hardest but most essential part of creation is knowing when to let go, of a scene, a detail, or even a direction you thought was vital. The third quarter moon reminds us that pruning isn’t failure; it’s growth.

For me, this phase is always humbling. It’s easy to become attached to the work, to see every word or mechanic as indispensable. But stepping back, especially under the soft light of the third quarter moon, offers a different perspective. I can see the rough edges more clearly, the places where the work needs space to breathe. And in that space, the work becomes stronger, sharper, more aligned with its purpose.

Letting go also means accepting imperfection, not as a flaw, but as part of the process. Creation isn’t about achieving an ideal; it’s about exploring, experimenting, and embracing the unexpected. What you release isn’t lost; it’s part of the foundation, a stepping stone that led you here. Each decision, even the discarded ones, shapes the final piece.

This phase may look different for you. It might be revisiting a draft with a critical eye, cutting what doesn’t belong. It could be stepping back from a project entirely to see it with fresh perspective. Or it might mean letting go of expectations, of how the work should look, how quickly it should come together, or what others might think. Whatever it is, the third quarter moon asks us to trust the process, to believe that what remains will be enough.

As the moon continues to wane, let’s use this time to refine, to simplify, and to trust in what we’ve built. The creative process is a cycle, and release is as vital as creation. What we let go of today makes room for what’s to come.

What will you release under this moon? What will you carry forward into the darkness of the new moon, where new ideas and possibilities await? Whatever it is, let’s embrace the quiet of this phase, trusting that the next cycle will bring light once again.

I hope you’re doing well today.

SECTION-R MANDATE

There was no founding moment. No speech. No plaque on a wall.

Someone, somewhere, decided the institutions were no longer up to the task. They failed quietly, as institutions tend to do. And in the quiet, SECTION-R appeared. Not born, not built. Just… present. A name on a folder that didn’t exist.

There are no heroes here. Only assignments, carried out by people who’ve forgotten what their own voices sound like when they say their real names. They don’t ask questions. They don’t shake hands.

What does the R stand for? That’s classified.

Who gives the orders? Also classified.

Who are they a section of? Especially classified.

You don’t get a briefing. You get a line of Latin that no one ever explains.

Cum praecepta franguntur, regula ruptor esto.
