ABOUT THE OSINT RPG PROJECT
Aside from a general love of the espionage genre and a perceived need for a definitive modern espionage roleplaying game, this project was created with three goals in mind:
To educate people about open source intelligence. Open source intelligence is nothing more than looking at the readily available information in the news, online, and in reference books, and being able to draw conclusions about what’s actually happening. Unlike conspiracy theories, which start with a conclusion and gather evidence to support it, open source intelligence analysis requires critical thinking skills, lateral reading, and fact-checking.
To create an open source modern espionage game. Best-in-class, grounded espionage games come and go, and while many have been highly influential, few have stayed in print. One reasons for this is that the real world moves too quickly to keep up with current events. By making this game open source, anyone can contribute to it update the information so that it always remains fresh and relevant.
To allow players and gamemasters to rip stories from the headlines. Using an ongoing story like a military conflict, political showdown, or business turmoil as inspiration for an adventure is simply using open source intelligence as a creative tool.
