The hill doesn’t overlook. It remembers.

Hill Omens: A Narrative Analysis is a system-agnostic tool for fantasy roleplaying. It helps you treat hills not as scenery to traverse, but as presences that carry memory, resonance, and quiet refusal. When a hill speaks, it does so through gravity, erosion, and the weight of what has stood too long to be denied.

This book equips you to treat hills as narrative events. Use it in any setting where a hill might witness, resist, or reveal. The focus is on consequence, memory, and persistent presence.

This Book Contains:

Each section plays a different role. Together, they offer a modular approach to storytelling that treats hills as places of witness, momentum, and long-held truth.

Narrative Framing: A collection of tools to help you understand what a hill means in the context of your story. It explores what the hill holds, how it responds, and what it reveals to those who linger. This framing treats the hill as something older than decisions, shaped by the weight of every footstep.

Scene Tools: Practical methods for showing the hill as more than elevation. These tools help you emphasize gravity, silence, and inevitability. You can use them to center a moment, slow its pace, or let something rise that was never buried.

Character Archetypes: Ten detailed examples of people shaped by the hill. Use them as player inspiration, story complications, or supporting characters who carry the burden of a slope they never meant to climb.

Story Complications: A set of narrative events that ripple outward from the hill. Each one introduces a shift that changes the story’s direction by standing still. They leave weight, shadow, and unfinished motion.

Worldbuilding Prompts: A guide to what the hill means across traditions, fears, and ancestral memory. These prompts help define how people live in its shadow, what they believe lies beneath, and what truths they choose not to disturb.

Adventure Hooks: Ten scenarios that begin where the hill has already settled. These open paths to memory, endurance, or reckoning. They can disrupt a journey, define a landscape, or draw characters toward what still waits at the summit.

The hill doesn’t explain. It endures.
